What’s new in NomiPad
Every release, newest first. NomiPad updates itself; you can also download the latest version any time.
By the NomiPad team · Updated
NomiPad 0.1.8
· Word wrap and a column guide, per tab; Preview shows every heading.
- New: View › Word Wrap (⌥Z on a Mac, Alt+Z on Windows and Linux) turns line wrapping on or off for the current tab.
- New: View › Column Guide draws a thin vertical line at 60 characters. Set the column, and whether new tabs start with wrapping and the guide, in Settings › Editor. In Markdown both are also on the toolbar.
- Fixed: in Preview, headings further down a long document could stay as raw “## ” text after you jumped or scrolled to them.
NomiPad 0.1.7
· Quitting with several windows open brings all of them back.
- Fixed: when you quit NomiPad with more than one window open, only one of them came back the next time. Now every window reopens with its tabs.
NomiPad 0.1.6
· Closed tabs stay closed after you quit.
- Fixed: tabs you closed shortly before quitting NomiPad (within about 30 seconds) came back the next time you opened it. Quitting now waits for your session to be saved.
NomiPad 0.1.5
· Resize the columns of Markdown tables.
- New: in Live Markdown and Preview, drag the right edge of a table’s header cell to make that column wider or narrower; double-click the edge to put the table back.
- The widths are for viewing only and aren’t saved to the file. PDF, PNG and HTML exports use them, so a table prints the way you set it.
NomiPad 0.1.4
· Open a file by typing its path, with suggestions as you type.
- New: File › Open Path… (⌥⌘O on a Mac, Ctrl+Alt+O on Windows and Linux) opens a small prompt where you type a file’s path. Folders and files are suggested as you type; Tab completes, Enter opens, and ~ stands for your home folder.
- Large files: Find and Go to Line land on the line you asked for, and the view no longer creeps upward while more of the file loads above it.
NomiPad 0.1.3
· Session restore keeps your tabs in order.
- A large file (over 64 MiB) reopened from your last session keeps its place among your tabs instead of moving to the end.
- The tab that was active when you quit is active again, even when a large file is open next to it.
NomiPad 0.1.2
· Fixes for highlighting after a relaunch, line numbers in large files, and tabs.
- Code tabs reopened from your last session keep their syntax highlighting.
- In files above 64 MiB, the line numbers and the status bar show the line’s number in the file (after Go to Line 7,898,417 they say 7,898,417).
- Opening a file into a new window replaces its empty “Untitled” tab instead of adding the file next to it, so it no longer uses up one of the free version’s three tabs.
NomiPad 0.1.1
· Opening files from your operating system, fixed on every platform.
- macOS: NomiPad is offered for plain text and Markdown in Open With, and can be picked as the default app for them.
- New: Settings › Files › Default app makes NomiPad the default for text, Markdown, log, JSON and CSV files (on Windows it opens the system’s Default apps page, where the choice has to be made).
- Windows: “Open with” and “Edit with NomiPad” in the Explorer menu; the installer removes them again on uninstall.
- Linux: NomiPad appears in the app chooser for text files, and a second launch opens its files in the running NomiPad.
- A file that is already open in another NomiPad window is brought to the front instead of opened twice.
- Opening a file from Finder or Explorer while NomiPad isn’t running no longer shows an extra empty window.
- Opening a folder, or a file that no longer exists, now says so instead of doing nothing.
NomiPad 0.1.0
· First public release, for macOS, Windows and Linux.
- Opens gigabyte-sized files instantly: memory-mapped, with background line indexing and Go to Line before indexing finishes.
- Edits and saves huge files by rewriting only the changed part, atomically, and never over changes made by another program.
- Keeps each file’s encoding (UTF-8 with or without BOM, UTF-16 LE/BE, Windows-1252) and line endings.
- Plaintext and Live Markdown modes, a read-only preview, and syntax highlighting for code, with Tree-sitter above 64 MiB.
- Find and Replace in one panel, streaming through the whole file with regex, case and whole-word options.
- Customizable keyboard shortcuts that follow physical keys, separate fonts for code, text and Markdown, and wrapping tabs.
- Export to PDF, HTML and PNG from File › Export As (PDF and PNG on macOS and Windows).
- Updates itself when a new version is out.
